Battery Storage

If you’ve ever lost power during a storm or wondered how to make better use of your solar panels, the Franklin Home Power System might be just what you’re looking for. This all-in-one setup makes it easy to store energy, manage power usage, and keep your home running—even when the grid goes down. Here’s how it works, and why homeowners are loving it.

A Simple, Smart Setup for Whole-Home Backup

The Franklin system is made up of three main parts: a powerful battery, the aPower 2, a smart energy controller called the aGate, and a mobile app that puts everything at your fingertips.

The battery can charge from solar panels, a generator, or even the regular grid, to back up your whole home when the power goes out. Each aPower 2 battery can store up to 15 kWh of energy and provide 10 kW of steady power—plenty to keep the essentials going. There is also a 10 second boost of power that will start larger appliances such as your AC unit.

The system is designed to work with any solar setup, providing you with peace of mind, energy savings, and full control over how your power is used.

Meet the aGate: The Brain of the Operation

The Franklin aGate is where everything connects. It links your battery to your solar system, the power grid, your generator (if you have one), and the different circuits in your home. It can send up to 200 amps of power to your appliances – enough to start your AC, and it’s smart enough to manage which ones stay on during an outage.

Inside the aGate, there’s space for three “smart circuits”—two rated for 50 amps and one for 80 amps. You can use these for heavy-duty appliances, an EV charger, or a nonessential sub-panel. When battery power runs low during an outage, the aGate can automatically shut these down to best utilize power. You can also take control manually or schedule them in advance using the Franklin app.

One standout feature? Solar black start. If your battery runs low during an outage and there’s no generator, the aGate can use the next morning’s sunlight to wake up your solar inverter, recharge the battery, and get your system back online—all without needing the grid.

The Franklin App: Control in Your Pocket

Everything the Franklin system does, you can manage right from your phone. The Franklin app lets you control how and when the battery charges, with modes for everyday use, backup readiness, or saving money during high-rate hours.

You can also schedule when power-hungry appliances turn on and off or manage them manually—especially helpful during an outage when you want to conserve battery life. Even if the internet goes down with the grid, the aGate creates its own wireless hotspot so you can stay connected to the app and keep control.

The app also gives you a full view of what’s going on with your energy: how much you’re generating, how much you’re using, and what’s stored in the battery, both in real time and over the past days and weeks.

Final Thoughts

The Franklin Home Power System is more than just a battery—it’s a smart, reliable way to manage your energy and protect your home. Whether you’re looking to save money, reduce your carbon footprint, or stay comfortable during blackouts, this system makes it all simple.
